MIRISSA WHALE WATCHING

Whale Watching Mirissa has been most popular attraction among the tourists who visit Sri Lanka. Since the year 2009 and still operating whale watching tours based in harbour. Mirissa is the closest point to where blue whales are inhabited because it has appropriate environmental conditions to live these giants. There are five types of whales (blue whale, bryde's whale, sperm whale, killer whale & pilot whale) & four kinds of dolphins (spinner dolphin, bottle nose dolphin, stripped dolphin, Risso's dolphin.

The whale watching season starts in November and ends in April.  High season is from December to March. At this time is water of the coast of Sri Lanka warm and calm. The Whale watching program starts at 7.00 A.M from Mirissa harbor and it will take 3- 5 hours. There are big boats serving with qualified crew and coxswain and also it's certified with govemenrt authorities, wild life department, tourist board and Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation covers each passenger with full insurance.

Setting off from Mirissa there is upto 90% opportunity to come across Sperm whales and good pretty chance of sighting the Blue whale as well. There are believed to be around 26 different species of whales traversing this region and this includes the well-loved dolphin.

It is an unforgettable experience to see these miracles of the ocean face to face.
